The Cardiothoracic Surgeons

Cardiothoracic Surgery is the practice of medicine directed towards the surgical treatment of diseases or injuries within the chest.  This would include Cardiac Surgery which is surgery involving the heart and/or great vessels such as the aorta. Cardiac surgery is most frequently performed to treat coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, valvular heart disease, to correct congenital heart abnormalities and heart transplantation.
Thoracic Surgery which is the surgical treatment for cancers of the lung, esophagus, chest wall or mediastinum; gastroesophageal reflux, chest injuries and lung transplantation. Congenital Heart Surgery which is the broad yet highly specialized practice of medicine directed toward the surgical correction of heart defects primarily in infants and children.
